AK5

The AK5 assault rifle is the basic personal firearm used by most Swedish forces. The AK5 is based on the Fabrique National Carbine (FNC80), but has been modified for harsh winter conditions. It has foldable stock, which is very usefull when sking. It uses the same ammunition (5.56 NATO) and magazines as the American M16. The standard magazine contains 30 rounds. It is common to tape two magazines together in a "ranger mag". It has two positions for the return gas flow, Gas 1 and Gas 2. Gas 1 is used under normal conditions, and Gas 2 is used when you need more power, such as when the weapon is very dirty or in low temperatures. It is capable of fully automatic fire. The weapon has two settings on the sights, 250m (the standard) and 400m. In addition it can be fitted with an optic scope (see below) and a grenade launcher (see next page).

AK5B

The AK5 can be fitted with an optic scope, and is then refered to as an AK5B. The scope used is the British SUSAT (Sight Unit Small Arms Trilux) with 4X magnification. In addition to the scope you attach a special cheek support to further stabilize the weapon.
